Sunday Drive - Valley of Fire
Our Sunday Drive for this week features Valley of Fire State Park in Nevada. It's a beautiful park filled with red sandstone rock formations carved by water located between Mesquite and Las Vegas, just off of I-15.
As you depart S.t George, you'll head south on Interstate 15, which quickly takes you out of the city and into the captivating desert landscape. The drive offers plenty of opportunities to witness the gradual transformation of the terrain as you leave Utah and enter Nevada.
Continuing on Interstate 15 for about 20 miles after crossing into Nevada, you'll start to see the first glimpses of the iconic red rock formations that give the Valley of Fire its name. As you approach the park, keep an eye out for the brilliant red Aztec Sandstone formations that rise from the desert floor, creating a landscape that appears to be straight out of a science fiction movie.
Upon entering the Valley of Fire State Park, you'll be greeted by the heart of the Mojave Desert. Be sure to visit some of the park's highlights, including Arch Rock, Elephant Rock, and the Visitor Center, which provides insight into the park's geological history and offers informative exhibits. And of course, drive the famous highway that bends and ascends the valley. Once at the top, make sure to grab a photo looking back into the desert!
